Zanjan at forefront of Iran olive industry: Official

Zanjan – The Tarom region of Zanjan, home to a 900-year-old olive-growing tradition, remains at the forefront of Iran’s olive industry, with production projected to reach 25,000 tons in 2025, according to the deputy for Crop Production at the Zanjan Agricultural Organization.

Peyman Haeri said table olive harvesting runs from mid-September to mid-November, while olive oil production begins in mid-November and continues through the end of December.

Tarom currently dedicates 17,500 hectares to olive cultivation, of which 15,500 hectares are productive orchards, he added, noting that the sector sustains more than 8,700 households and creates around 93,000 seasonal workdays each year.

“The region is also renowned for its diverse, high-quality olive varieties, including Zard, Roughani, Manzanilla, and Koroneiki. In addition, the Tarom Olive Research Station hosts one of the world’s richest collections of olive genetic resources, underscoring the area’s global significance in olive cultivation and research,” Haeri said.
