 Historical Bakground:

Peach is scientifically named Prunus persica and is from the Rosaceac family. The peach was originated in the warm areas of China, then was entered from China via commercial routes to Iran, and from Iran to the Mediterranean and then to Greece. After apple, peach tree is the most adapted fruit to various climates. The major crop areas of peach in the world are circuits 25 to 45 degrees north and south of the Earth. In high latitudes, minimum winter temperatures and spring frosts are two limiting factors and in low latitudes, lack of cold requirement is the most important limiting factor that has an adverse effect on sleeping time, flowering and fruit production needs.

 

Major Producer Provinces:

Alborz (15%), Golestan (8.5%), Mazandaran (8%), Fars (7%), West Azarbaijan (7%), Tehran (6.5%), Central (6%), Hamadan (6%) and Ardabil (6%) are major peach producers in the country.

 

Target countries of export markets:

Iraq, Turkmenistan, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Afghanistan, India, Turkey, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Russia

 

Production Rate:

Peach fruit production in the country is 853 thousand tons per hectare.

 Area under Cultivation:

According to the census of the Ministry of Jihad-Agriculture of the year 2017, the cultivation area of ​​peach orchards in the country was 65.3 thousand hectares, 87.7% of which was cultivated by fertile trees and 12.3% by non-fertile trees. Out of 65.3 thousand hectares of peach orchards, 99.3% of it is irrigated and the rest is rainfed.

Iran ranked 5th in terms of production of peach after China, Spain, Italy and the United States

 Export Rate:

According to customs statistics in 2018, exports of peaches and nuts were 15565 tons, which was worth about $ 9300 thousand.
