Office of Health and Management of Poultry, Honey Bee and Silkworm Diseases

Terms of Reference

  • Developing policies and strategic plans for the prevention, control and eradication of diseases affecting poultry, honey bees and silkworms, together with monitoring the implementation of related programs.
  • Preparing short-, medium- and long-term operational plans for the development and strengthening of national surveillance systems for poultry, honey bee and silkworm diseases.
  • Investigating and identifying the factors contributing to the occurrence and spread of infectious diseases in poultry, apiculture and sericulture, including risk assessment, surveillance and disease control measures.
  • Collecting, analyzing and interpreting epidemiological data on disease outbreaks and proposing effective preventive and corrective measures.
  • Evaluating the effectiveness of disease control programs and recommending improvements to enhance prevention and eradication activities.
  • Identifying academic and in-service training needs for personnel in the public and private veterinary sectors to strengthen disease prevention and control capacities.
  • Assessing and improving national surveillance systems for poultry, honey bee and silkworm diseases by incorporating updated scientific knowledge and modern technologies.
  • Reviewing, analyzing and evaluating reports on disease control projects, highlighting achievements, challenges and areas requiring improvement.
  • Assessing national requirements for equipment, laboratory facilities, vaccines, biological products, veterinary medicines, diagnostic materials and skilled personnel needed for disease prevention and control.
  • Collecting and evaluating field reports concerning disease outbreaks and assessing the quality and effectiveness of veterinary medicines, biological products and pesticides used in disease control programs.
  • Collecting, compiling and analyzing scientific data on the occurrence and distribution of poultry, honey bee and silkworm diseases for submission to relevant international organizations.
  • Preparing technical reports, epidemiological bulletins and official documentation on these diseases for international specialized agencies.
  • Collecting, analyzing and maintaining epidemiological records on infectious diseases affecting wild birds, free-ranging birds and companion birds, with particular attention to disease reservoirs and carriers.
  • Studying wetlands and migratory bird habitats to assess their role in the introduction and spread of infectious poultry diseases.
  • Participating in the organization, regulation and health supervision of live poultry markets.
  • Contributing to the development and expansion of insurance coverage for poultry farming, apiculture and sericulture industries.
  • Cooperating with governmental bodies, private organizations, professional associations, cooperatives and industry stakeholders to improve biosecurity standards and hygienic management systems in poultry farms, apiaries and silkworm production units.
  • Participating in the organization of national, regional and international technical meetings, workshops, conferences and scientific events related to poultry, honey bee and silkworm health.
