IOC hails Iran’s influential role in global olive market

The International Olive Council (IOC) executive director,
Abdellatif Ghedira, commended Iran’s influential role in the international
olive market, indicating that the nation could escalate its position even
further.

Abdellatif Ghedira praised Iran’s significant role in the
global olive market in a recent meeting with Iran’s Agriculture Minister,
Mohammad-Ali Nikbakht.

Ghedira suggested that Iran holds untapped potential that
could shape the future of the international olive industry.

According to Ghedira, Iran’s distinct position in the
regional olive sector, bolstered by a series of initiatives such as specialized
training programs, expert consultations, and the establishment of olive
schools, has prepared the groundwork for the nation to emerge as a powerhouse
in olive-related scientific advancement. This could ultimately elevate Iran’s
stature compared to other regional countries.

“Iran’s olive has a special position
in the region,” Ghedira said. “With the deployment of experts and the
organization of specialized training courses and the opening of the olive
school, Iran can become a central player in terms of scientific promotion.”

Iran’s proactive involvement in the IOC’s activities has
also earned recognition, Ghedira pointed out. The IOC executive director
identified the establishment of olive schools in Iran as a notable achievement,
reflecting Iran’s commitment to the development of the olive industry.

In addition to being a dynamic force within the
International Olive Council, Ghedira hinted at Iran’s potential to assume
leadership of the organization. “Next year, Iran can be elected as the IOC head
which is required to provide written programs to the council and its members to
increase the level of olive production and consumption,” he proposed. This
election would establish Iran as the olive capital of the region, amplifying
its influence on the international stage.

Ghedira expressed the IOC’s ongoing support for Iran in
olive education, production, and consumption promotion. “We will continue to
support the Islamic Republic of Iran in the field of olive education and the promotion
of olive production and consumption,” he affirmed.

In a significant development, Ghedira announced that the
IOC’s specialized magazine, Olivae, would spotlight Iranian olives in its 2023
editions, featuring content in five languages. This dedication testifies to
Iran’s rising importance in the international olive sector.

Nikbakht, for his part, emphasized that Iran, through the
use of its renowned experts in olive cultivation and production, could extend
its knowledge and experience to other member countries.
