Tehran – The launch of “One Billion Tree” Initiative — a large-scale national program aimed at enhancing vegetation cover, fighting desertification, and improving the country’s climate resilience — seeks to revive the country’s ecosystems, according to the Head of the Forests, Range, and Watershed Management Organization.

 

Speaking at a meeting of the National Steering Committee for the project, Ali Teymouri, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Head of the Forests, Range, and Watershed Management Organization, outlined the core objectives of the initiative, emphasizing the importance of public participation, noting that the plan will be implemented with the cooperation of local communities, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and civil society actors.

 

“This is a people-driven movement. Over the next four years, we aim to plant 250 million trees annually across the country — a collective effort that will serve as a turning point for Iran’s natural resource management,” Teymouri said.

 

He also underlined the critical role of rural communities and grassroots organizations as on-the-ground implementers of the project, adding that their involvement is essential to achieving long-term sustainability and restoring ecological health.

 

The ‘One Billion Tree’ Initiative was launched in 2022. Iran's Leader has personally supported the campaign, encouraging Iranians to actively participate in creating a greener future: "The government's plan will be realized over four years if every Iranian plants three saplings."
