Tehran – The head of the Public Relations Center at Iran's Ministry of Agriculture has announced plans to leverage the expertise of academics and media professionals to help communicate the ministry's agricultural and food security policies.

 

Seyed Sajjad Hosseini noted that despite wartime conditions, the country has not faced major difficulties in supplying essential commodities.

 

"War inevitably causes certain peripheral disruptions and creates obstacles in normal processes," he said. "However, numerous measures have been taken to manage the situation in the supply of essential commodities."

 

Highlighting the importance of ensuring national food security, Hosseini added: "The Minister of Agriculture personally traveled to Turkey to coordinate trade and secure inputs, and the ministry's subsidiaries took the necessary steps to finalize contracts. In areas such as logistics, entry points, and transport routes, studies, actions, and contingency plans have also been carried out for new alternative routes."

 

Noting that the majority of imports are concentrated at Imam Khomeini Port, Hosseini said: "The unloading capacity and logistics at other ports in the country cannot compare with those of Imam Khomeini Port. Currently, the volume of imports through northern ports has reached about 35 percent, but the logistics infrastructure at these ports still requires strengthening."

 

He also pointed to several government measures in the agricultural and food security sectors, saying: "The elimination of preferential foreign exchange rates, the development of offshore farming, support for domestic production, the expansion of greenhouse cultivation, and planning to reform the cropping pattern are among the most important programs and actions of the Ministry of Agriculture."

 

Concluding his remarks, Hosseini noted that more than 85 percent of the country's required products are produced domestically. "Greenhouse cultivation is expanding rapidly in the country," he said. "Iran has now become one of the region's key exporters of greenhouse products. Additionally, more than 90 percent of the country's fertilizer needs are met through domestic production."
