Yazd Research Center launches agri-voltaic project to boost pistachio production
Yazd – Iran's Agricultural Research Center in central Yazd province has implemented an innovative agri-voltaic project, combining solar energy generation with pistachio cultivation to enhance productivity and address water scarcity.
The project involves installing solar panels at an optimal height above pistachio trees. This setup serves a dual purpose: protecting trees from direct sunlight during peak heat while allowing agricultural activities to continue beneath, according to a report carried by the official website of the Ministry of Agriculture.
It represents a pioneering integration of agriculture and renewable energy, aimed at strengthening food security and promoting sustainable farming in challenging environmental conditions.
