West Azarbaijan producing over 7m certified saplings annually
Urmia - West Azarbaijan Province, in the northwest of Iran produces more than 7 million licensed saplings and rootstocks annually, retaining its position as Iran’s top producer in the sector, provincial agricultural authorities announced.
Mohammad Reza Asghari, head of the West Azarbaijan Agricultural Organization, said the province has consistently ranked first nationwide in certified nursery production in recent years.
He added that certified seed processing and production are conducted by 10 specialized companies operating across the province.
According to Asghari, West Azarbaijan produces more than 27,000 metric tons of certified seeds each year, placing it among Iran’s leading provinces in seed production capacity and quality assurance.
He emphasized that the province’s robust capabilities in certified sapling and seed production constitute a strategic foundation for sustainable agricultural growth, higher productivity, and improved health and reliability of crop outputs.
