Researcher highlights importance of Fava bean cultivation
Tehran - Three new fava bean varieties for animal, poultry, and aquafeed have been introduced by Iran's Agricultural Research, Education and Extension Organization (AREEO), according to the research deputy at the Golestan Agricultural Research Center.
Fatemeh Sheikh, a fava bean breeding specialist, said the winter-sown protein crop poses no threat to water or soil resources.
“The new varieties can be grown using green water or even under rain-fed conditions in areas with as little as 350 mm of rainfall.”
She stressed that promoting fava bean cultivation, guaranteeing seed purchases, and replacing imported ingredients in industrial feed rations must be pursued seriously.
