Tehran – A senior Iranian official has called for greater recognition and support for the substantial

contributions of women in rural and nomadic agriculture.

 

Maryam Tahmasebi, advisor to the Minister of Agriculture and director-general of rural and nomadic women's agricultural development, highlighted the critical role women play in sustaining food production and livelihoods in Iran's rural areas.

 Despite their immense contributions, their work is often undervalued and overlooked.

"Women form the backbone of rural and nomadic agriculture in Iran," Tahmasebi emphasized. "Over 70% of agricultural and livestock activities are carried out by women, who are vital to ensuring food security and rural development."

To recognize the importance of women's contributions, Iran will celebrate International Day of Rural Women on October 15th with an exhibition showcasing their skills and achievements. The event will focus on four key areas and will honor exemplary women in the presence of policymakers and development experts.

Tahmasebi's call for greater attention to women's roles in agriculture comes as Iran seeks to modernize its agricultural sector and improve rural livelihoods. By empowering women and providing them with the necessary resources, Iran can unlock the full potential of its rural communities and enhance food security for the nation.
