Official highlights role of nomads in Kermanshah’s economy
Kermanshah - The Director General of Nomadic Affairs of Kermanshah western province announced that nomadic communities account for 50 percent of the province’s small livestock production, placing Kermanshah fourth nationwide in this sector.
Mr. Kazemi said the province’s nomadic population comprises 13,881 households, representing 4.5 percent of the provincial population and 7 percent of Iran’s total nomadic population.
He explained that livestock herding is their main livelihood and that they manage approximately 1.6 million livestock units. “These figures account for around half of Kermanshah’s small livestock and 7 percent of the country’s nomadic livestock, securing the province’s fourth-place national ranking.”
He added that Kermanshah’s nomads play a vital role in the provincial economy, producing more than 30 percent of its dairy products annually.
Kazemi noted that over the past year, targeted planning and development measures have led to a relative improvement in both the quantitative and qualitative living conditions of nomads, with average welfare and access indicators rising by 2.35 percent.
