Official highlights importance of expansion of Canola cultivation
Markazi - Expanding canola cultivation within wheat-based crop rotation systems can significantly boost wheat production while improving soil health and water efficiency, an official says.
Mr. Gholi-Pour, Director of Crop Production at the Markazi Provincial Department of Agriculture, said that rotating canola with wheat strengthens soil structure, reduces pests and diseases, and enhances both the quantity and quality of wheat yields.
He noted that Markazi Province, one of key agricultural regions in the center of Iran, is already among the country’s leaders in canola cultivation.
“Experts emphasize that integrating canola into wheat rotations represents a form of smart, sustainable agriculture, restoring soil fertility, breaking pest cycles, and optimizing water use rather than depleting resources,” Gholi-Pour said.
According to official data, average canola yields in Markazi Province reach 2,400 kilograms per hectare, with record yields of up to 5,500 kilograms per hectare achieved under optimal conditions, highlighting the crop’s strong potential.
