North Khorasan - North Khorasan Province, in the northeast of Iran, plans to establish a specialized hub for breeding purebred Turkoman horses, complete with equestrian, recreational, and tourism facilities, provincial officials announced.

 

Esmail Mahmoudabadi, head of the province’s Agricultural Organization, said North Khorasan is home to 1,712 purebred Turkoman horses, one of Iran’s most valuable native breeds with significant sporting, economic, and tourism potential.

 

He noted that genetic testing and pedigree verification programs are underway to preserve the breed’s authenticity and improve breeding standards.

 

Mahmoudabadi also said the province is investing in plans to export up to 100 horses annually, while continuing to host horse beauty shows, racing competitions, and other equestrian events to promote tourism and equestrian culture.
