North Khorasan produces over 13,000 tons of greenhouse products annually
Tehran – North Khorasan Province, northeast Iran, produces more than 13,000 metric tons of greenhouse crops each year, with 383 greenhouse units operating across 75.7 hectares, according to the provincial Agriculture Organization.
Esmaeil Mahmoudabadi, head of the organization, said the province's annual greenhouse output totals 13,294 metric tons, including cucumbers, tomatoes, eggplants, peppers, basil, and other vegetables, as well as ornamental plants and specialty fruits.
“The province also produces more than 3.8 million seedlings annually, supporting modern farming and the supply of high-quality planting materials. In the ornamental horticulture sector, greenhouses produce around 1 million flowers and ornamental plants each year, in addition to 350 metric tons of fruits such as lemons, grapes, nectarines, and strawberries.”
Mahmoudabadi said expanding greenhouse cultivation remains a strategic priority for the province, helping improve water-use efficiency, boost agricultural productivity, diversify production, and create sustainable employment.
