Gorgan – The Golestan Province Agricultural Organization has successfully devised a series of preventive strategies that have curbed outbreaks of the Mediterranean fruit fly, protecting early- and mid-season varieties of peaches, nectarines, and plums.

 

Hossein Hezarjaribi, head of the organization, credited the achievement to close cooperation between farmers and agricultural experts, along with the deployment of early warning stations throughout the province.

 

“Thanks to the region’s distinct climate and proactive preventive measures, damage from the Mediterranean fruit fly has remained minimal in targeted orchards,” he said.

 

The official voiced optimism that ongoing collaboration between public- and private-sector stakeholders will help extend similar protection to other vulnerable fruit crops, including pears, persimmons, pomegranates, and citrus.

 

Noting the harvest of 95,000 tons of stone fruits this season, he added, “Preventive efforts, improved orchard hygiene, and adherence to guidelines from the Plant Protection Office have led to the production of high-quality, healthy peach and nectarine yields.”
