Chabahar – The Iranian Minister of Agriculture announced that expanding shrimp farming and related infrastructure in Sistan and Baluchestan Province is a key priority for the ministry as part of Iran’s broader strategy to strengthen the blue economy, promote regional development, and enhance national food security.

 

Speaking on Thursday, during the inauguration of a seawater pumping and transmission project supplying the Roudik Shrimp Farming Complex in Dashtiari County, Gholamreza Nouri said that the first phase of the project, covering 200 hectares, will begin shrimp cultivation within the next four to five months.

 

He highlighted the project as a clear demonstration of the province’s strong potential in marine-based industries and aquaculture.

 

The minister emphasized that the project’s subsequent phases will further boost job creation, local economic growth, and sustainable food production, describing it as an important step toward balanced national development.

 

Developed through private sector investment, the project covers a total of 500 hectares, with the first 200 hectares already operational. Once fully completed, it is expected to produce 1,000 tons of shrimp annually and create more than 300 direct jobs, positioning Sistan and Baluchestan as a leading hub in Iran’s emerging blue economy sector.
