Tehran – Iran's Minister of Agriculture has announced an 8% increase in the delivery of chemical fertilizers to farmers this cropping year, emphasizing that domestic production will play a greater role in ensuring the country's food security.

 

Gholamreza Nouri said that thanks to the implementation of a national cropping pattern and favorable rainfall, the share of domestic output in meeting food security needs will rise, adding that there are no issues regarding the supply of chemical fertilizers.

 

In response to reporters' questions about this year's rain-fed farming conditions, the minister referred to the newly established cropping pattern for the current agricultural year.

 

"This year's cropping pattern was designed to meet the country's needs, and it coincided with good rainfall. By God's grace, we are having a good year in agriculture," he said.

 

Nouri further emphasized that reliance on domestic production for food security, which has averaged 85 percent, will increase even more this year.

 

Turning to the fertilizer sector, the minister noted that petrochemical industries sustained damage during the imposed war, but stressed that there are currently no shortages. "We have no problems regarding chemical fertilizers — neither urea nor other types. This year, fertilizers have been supplied to farmers on time, and the volume is about 8 percent higher than in previous years," he said.
