Minister endorses vertical farming for sustainable agriculture

Tehran – Iranian Agriculture Minister Gholamreza Nouri has expressed strong support for vertical farming, highlighting its potential to address both domestic food supply challenges and boost agricultural exports.

During a recent visit to the Ardastani Brothers Greenhouse in Pishva, Tehran Province, Nouri emphasized the critical role of greenhouse cultivation in a country facing limited land and water resources. He underscored that vertical farming presents a viable solution for ensuring food security while optimizing resource utilization.

"We have firsthand experience of the benefits of vertical farming through our visit to the production units in Pishva," Nouri stated.

"In light of the constraints we face, greenhouse cultivation emerges as a key strategy for sustainable agricultural production and ensuring food security for our nation."

The minister praised the economic viability of the visited greenhouse, noting its ability to maximize production per square meter while minimizing costs.

He emphasized the potential of such units to produce high-quality products that can meet domestic demand and be competitively exported to international markets.

Nouri called for increased government support to encourage the establishment of vertical farming units across Iran's diverse climatic regions. He asserted that these pioneering initiatives are instrumental in safeguarding the country's food security and promoting sustainable agricultural practices.
