Khuzestan forecasts 1.5m ton sugar beet harvest
Ahvaz – The southern Khuzestan province expects to harvest over 1.5 million tons of sugar beets from 26,000 hectares of farmland this season, a senior agricultural official announced.
Koorosh Norouzi, cultivation director of the Khuzestan Agriculture Organization, said contracts have been signed with 14 sugar factories nationwide to process the crop.
“Sugar beets are being cultivated across nine counties in the province, with Shush county leading as the main production hub.”
According to the official, two of the 14 contracted factories are based in Khuzestan, handling 25–30% of the total yield. The remaining harvest will be sent to factories outside the province for processing.
He expressed satisfaction with this year's quality, noting that both per-hectare yield and sugar content are excellent. “This strong performance promises good profitability for farmers and a boost to the regional sugar industry.”
