Khorasan Razavi leads Iran’s medicinal plant sector with productivity-driven strategy
Mashhad – Khorasan Razavi province, in the northeast of Iran, is reinforcing its position as one of Iran’s leading producers of medicinal plants through a strategy focused on productivity, value addition, and sustainable agricultural development, the head of the province’s Agricultural Organization said.
Majid Jafari said the province’s diverse climate and extensive cultivation area have made it a national leader in medicinal plant production.
He noted that expanding the sector not only generates higher-value products but also improves water-use efficiency, boosts farmers’ incomes, and supports sustainable agriculture.
Jafari said the province is prioritizing the cultivation of high-value species, adoption of modern farming practices, development of the value chain, and investment in processing industries to increase productivity and strengthen the sector’s competitiveness.
He added that closer collaboration between research institutions and the private sector could make medicinal plants a major driver of economic growth and job creation in Khorasan Razavi.
