Kermanshah begins harvest of early-season Ruby Grapes

Tehran – Harvesting of Ruby Seedless grapes (Yaqouti grapes) has commenced in Iran’s western province of Kermanshah, with production expected to reach 22,500 metric tons this year, provincial agricultural officials announced.

According to Rahman Feyz-Ghorbani, Director of Horticulture at the Kermanshah Agriculture Jihad Organization, the province has 3,247 hectares under Ruby grape cultivation, making it one of Iran’s key production centers for the early-season variety.

“The largest share of output comes from Qasr-e Shirin County, where 1,895 hectares of vineyards are expected to yield around 20,000 metric tons of grapes. The neighboring counties of Sarpol-e Zahab and Gilan-e Gharb account for 1,050 hectares and 402 hectares of vineyards, respectively.”

Feyz-Ghorbani said the harvest season is now underway and will continue for approximately one month.

Ruby grapes are among the first grape varieties harvested in Iran each year, reaching domestic markets ahead of most other cultivars and marking the start of the country’s grape season.
