Tehran - Iran’s farmed shrimp output increased by 37% year-on-year in 2025 (1404), surpassing 62,000 tons, following tighter disease control and enhanced health management across aquaculture operations, the Iran Veterinary Organization reported.

 

Reza Asadi, Director General for Aquatic Animal Health and Disease Management, said all shrimp-producing provinces recorded higher output. Bushehr led production with more than 30,000 tons, while harvesting in Khuzestan, Golestan, and Sistan and Baluchestan was completed without any reported disease outbreaks.

 

White spot disease was not detected for a third consecutive year in Bushehr and Hormozgan, and the number of other disease hotspots declined by 45% to 60%, attributed to systematic sampling, biosecurity measures, and preventive health monitoring in hatcheries and farms.

 

Across other aquaculture segments - including cold-water, warm-water, and sturgeon farming -disease outbreaks fell by 35%, generating an estimated 6 trillion tomans in economic savings, officials said.
