Iran’s farmed shrimp output rises by 37 percent

Tehran- Iran’s farmed shrimp production has risen by 37 percent so far in the current Iranian calendar year (ends in late March 2026) compared to the same period last year, surpassing 50,000 tons, according to the Iran Fisheries Organization.

 

Mehrdad Mohammadi-Doost, Director General of the Office of Shrimp and Brackish Water Aquatics at the organization, said the total area under shrimp cultivation nationwide has reached 17,890 hectares this year.

 

“Harvesting has so far been completed on 13,638 hectares of shrimp farming ponds.”

 

“Shrimp farmers have produced more than 50,000 tons of shrimp from the harvested areas to date,” Mohammadi-Doost said.

 

He noted that Bushehr Province leads national production, with approximately 28,170 tons harvested so far.

 

“The province has also recorded the highest growth rate, registering a 71 percent increase in production compared to the same period last year.”

 

In Hormozgan Province, the official said, shrimp production has reached 10,142 tons so far, while harvesting is ongoing in an additional 4,000 hectares of shrimp ponds.
