Tehran – Iran's West Azarbaijan province, situated in the northwest of Iran, doubled its agricultural exports in the first quarter of the current Iranian year, shipping 516,000 metric tons of products through its customs terminals, a provincial official announced.

Mohammadreza Asghari, head of the West Azarbaijan Agricultural Organization, said agricultural imports also increased ninefold to 611,000 tons, reinforcing the province's strategic role in regional agricultural trade. Meanwhile, agricultural transit through the province's border crossings doubled to 669,000 tons.

He said authorities have intensified phytosanitary and quarantine inspections at customs checkpoints to prevent the entry of plant pests and diseases while facilitating growing cross-border trade.

“The province's main agricultural exports include pistachios, dates, garlic, apples, tomatoes, raisins, dried fruits, and dried apricots.”
