Tehran – Iran’s Caspian Native Chicken Breeding Center has reached its 34th generation of selective breeding, achieving a 55–65 percent increase in meat and egg production compared with the original poultry stock, according to local official in the northern Mazandaran Province.

Hossein Negahdar, Deputy for Livestock Production Improvement at the Mazandaran Agriculture Organization, said the center has recorded major advances in key economic traits, including higher body weight, increased egg production, improved disease resistance, lower mortality rates, and earlier maturity.

He noted that the “Caspian” breed was officially registered as a national breed in 2023, underscoring the center’s role in preserving Iran’s poultry genetic resources while enhancing productivity and self-sufficiency in domestic production.

The center, which ranks first among six similar facilities nationwide, operates on a 10-hectare site equipped with a hatchery, feed mill, and poultry-rearing units, contributing to local food production, rural employment, and economic development.
