Iran to harvest papaya in Khuzestan for first time

Khuzestan – Iran has plans underway to grow a significant 20 tons of papaya fruit in the southwestern province of Khuzestan, according to the head of Ramhormoz Agricultural Organization.
Farshad Mehrabi explained that the Sweet Sinse variety of papaya, also known as tree melon, was cultivated for the first time in Ramhormoz across a 3,000 square meter area in May 2022.
He highlighted that the expansion of papaya cultivation could revolutionize the agricultural cultivation pattern and greenhouse products in the region.
Referencing the initiation of the harvest of this medicinally beneficial fruit, Mehrabi further predicted a consistent annual yield of 20 tons per hectare.
Given the high market value of this tropical fruit, he emphasized that the expansion of greenhouse cultivation in the region is economically viable. Moreover, the simplicity of papaya cultivation, requiring minimal expertise and offering high economic returns, positions it as a suitable replacement for water-intensive crops, especially in tropical regions.
The papaya, or pawpaw, is a common and delicious tropical fruit and is of economic significance in many parts of the world.
