Iran targets over 20m tons of livestock, poultry output by 2027
Tehran – Iran's Deputy Minister of Agriculture has announced a target to produce over 20 million tons of livestock and poultry products by the Iranian year 1405 (ending March 2027), with a new focus on quality improvement.
Mohammad Ebrahim Hassan-Nejad said this year's production plan includes 14 million tons of milk, three million tons of chicken meat, 2.3 million tons of eggs, and 960,000 tons of red meat, based on domestic consumption needs.
"Alongside quantitative output, we are prioritizing quality enhancement of animal products," he said, adding that egg and dairy exports continue despite current "imposed war" conditions.
Hassan-Nejad noted that quality improvements have already allowed some domestic milk to be used in infant formula production, a trend set to continue through 2027.
“Other initiatives include advanced slaughterhouse equipment and reproductive management programs, which last year covered five million sheep and helped boost lambing rates and production efficiency.”
