Iran targets 1,500 tons of silkworm cocoons in spring rearing, official says
Tehran – Iran has set a target of producing 1,500 tons of fresh silkworm cocoons during the spring rearing season of 1405, the head of the country's Sericulture Development Center announced.
Habibollah Rezadoost said the goal is based on provincial demand for silkworm eggs. From this output, an estimated 235–240 tons of raw silk will be produced.
“To meet the target, 41,000 boxes of silkworm eggs will be distributed across 31 provinces. Of these, 34% will be supplied domestically and 66% imported.”
Rezadoost noted that average cocoon yield stands at 35-37 kg per box, on par with global averages, but can reach up to 55 kg under optimal conditions.
