Iran taking measures to advance sustainable farming

Tehran – The head of Iran's Agricultural Research, Education and Extension Organization (AREEO) announced significant progress in sustainable farming practices through improved resource management.
"We have implemented effective measures to safeguard natural resources while advancing sustainable production management,” Gholamreza Golmohammadi said.
Referring to the initiatives, he said, “Preserving 5 million plant, animal, and microbial genetic samples, launching new water-needs calculation system, saving water by 40% for autumn sugar beet crops, and cutting use of chemical pesticide use cut by 2,500-3,000 tons through integrated pest management are among the measures taken so far”.
"These measures demonstrate our commitment to balancing agricultural output with environmental protection," Golmohammadi said, noting the policies align with UN Sustainable Development Goals.
