Tehran – Iran’s “One Billion Trees” Initiative is moving forward as officials reviewed its progress at a meeting of the Forests, Rangelands, and Watershed Management Organization (FRWMO).

 

Reza Aflatooni, Head of FRWMO, said the program has revived abandoned nurseries and plays a key role in restoring the country’s ecosystems.

 

He called for stronger private-sector participation in wood cultivation, use of treated wastewater for timber production, and site selection based on local climates and native species.

 

Aflatooni stressed the importance of comprehensive documentation and prompt resolution of implementation challenges, directing that all project data be entered into the SATK monitoring system within one week.

 

Iran's "One Billion Trees" initiative is a four-year national plan, launched in late 2023, aiming to plant one billion trees to combat desertification, restore forests, and improve Iran's ecosystem. The plan involves government organizations, industries, and the public, with the goal of enhancing vegetation cover and increasing carbon absorption to combat climate change and drought.
