Iran reports 37 percent surge in shrimp production for 2024

Tehran – Iran's farmed shrimp production jumped 37% in 2024, surpassing 62,000 tons, an official announced.

Reza Asadi, head of aquatic health at Iran's Veterinary Organization, credited the increase to stricter health controls and proactive disease monitoring in hatcheries and farms.

The boost came despite a 13% rise in juvenile stocking and a 10% expansion in active farms. A key achievement was curbing a major shrimp disease (AHPND), with outbreaks dropping 35% from the previous year.

Authorities conducted over 5,000 farm inspections to enforce biosecurity. More than 16,000 farms were active across five coastal provinces.

Updated action plans have been issued for the coming season to sustain growth in the sector.
