Gilan - Iran is the world's eighth-largest sericulture producer, and the government is now pursuing full self-sufficiency in silkworm egg production, according to the head of the Sericulture Development Center.

 

Speaking at the launch of silkworm egg distribution in Gilan province—where 12,000 boxes will be delivered starting April 30— Habibollah Rezadoost noted that Iran once ranked third globally and aims to return to higher positions.

 

He called Gilan the country's sericulture hub, citing its production workshops, mulberry gardens, and silk factories.

 

“With a 2,600-year silk heritage, Rezadoust added, sericulture offers rapid 45-day returns and strong potential for rural employment.”
