Tehran – Iran has launched a National Agricultural Technology and Innovation Ecosystem to accelerate the commercialization of agricultural research, foster innovation, and strengthen links between science, industry, and the marketplace.

 

The initiative, established by the Agricultural Engineering Research Institute under the Agricultural Research, Education and Extension Organization (AREEO), was unveiled during a ceremony marking National Information Technology Day.

 The event also featured an innovation fair where 12 knowledge-based companies and startups showcased cutting-edge agricultural technologies and products.

 

Mohammad Mehdi Qasemi, head of the institute, said the ecosystem will serve as a collaborative platform connecting universities, research institutes, technology companies, startups, investors, policymakers, and agricultural producers to transform research into commercially viable solutions.

 

He said the initiative is built on an open innovation model that promotes collaboration across the public and private sectors, helping accelerate technology transfer, business creation, and the commercialization of scientific achievements.

 

According to Qasemi, the ecosystem will focus on artificial intelligence, digital agriculture, climate resilience, resource-efficient technologies, circular economy solutions, and other knowledge-based innovations to address the sector's most pressing challenges.

 

He added that the initiative is intended to position the institute as Iran's leading hub for agricultural engineering and innovation, supporting higher productivity, greater resilience, sustainable agricultural development, and enhanced national food security through advanced technologies.
