Qazvin – Three medical leech farms with a combined capacity of more than 200,000 have begun operating in the northwest of Qazvin Province, according to the acting head of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources at the provincial Agricultural Organization.

 

Speaking during a visit to a leech farming facility in Vars village, Alborz County, Mehri Mahmoudi said the units follow strict hygiene protocols and employ modern breeding techniques.

 

“They are expected to play a key role in supplying medical leeches for traditional medicine centers across the country.”

 

She emphasized that leech farming not only supports the growing demand in traditional medicine but also creates sustainable jobs in rural areas.

 

With its favorable conditions for aquaculture, Qazvin Province is working to expand this sector further as part of broader efforts to boost rural employment and strengthen the local economy, the official noted.
