Iran has achieved self-sufficiency in dairy production, IVO head says

Tehran - The head of Iran's Veterinary Organization (IVO) announced that the country has reached self-sufficiency in dairy production through domestic capabilities.

Alireza Rafieipour outlined the livestock sector’s achievements and the Veterinary Organization’s regulatory role, noting sustainable growth across the dairy industry.

Iran currently produces 12 to 13 million tons of raw milk annually, he said, adding more than 120 dairy products, including milk and doogh (a traditional yogurt drink), are being produced and distributed nationwide, which reflects a dynamic and highly capable production, processing, and supply chain.

The head of the Veterinary Organization emphasized that ongoing efforts to enhance dairy safety, through quality controls at both industrial and small-scale facilities, are supported by continued backing for livestock farmers, processors, and supply chain investment.

Rafieipour added that several domestic producers have entered international markets. “Supported by stringent health and safety standards, dairy exports now stand at approximately three million tons, with further growth expected to become a key driver for the industry’s future expansion.”
