Iran backs poultry sector with credit inputs, contract farming: Deputy minister

Tehran – Iran's Agriculture Ministry supported poultry and egg producers during recent economic pressures by distributing feed inputs on three-month credit and signing contract farming deals for 40 million chickens, according to deputy minister.

Mohammad Ebrahim Hassan-Nejad, deputy minister for livestock production affairs, said the government guaranteed the purchase of output, allowing producers to pay for inputs after production.

"This covered about one-third of producers," he noted.

For red meat, contract farming is facilitated through working capital loans. Over 100 trillion rials was provided to feedlots last year, with similar support planned for 2026.

Hassan-Nejad added that over 1.8 billion day-old chicks were placed in 2025, and next year's targets will be based on consumer demand.
