Iran among world’s top ten producers of poultry meat, eggs

Tehran - Iran has secured its place among the world’s top ten producers of poultry meat and eggs, surpassing the targets set in the country’s Seventh Development Plan, according to the Director-General of the Poultry Office at the Ministry of Agriculture.

Mehrab Faraji emphasized that production and exports continue steadily, fueled by domestic expertise and local capabilities.

He noted that over 3.1 million tons of poultry meat were produced last year, with similar or higher volumes expected this year—figures that exceed the government’s development forecasts.

“Per capita poultry consumption in Iran now exceeds 32 kilograms. Given the economic situation and a decline in red meat consumption, this number is expected to rise further in the second half of the year,” he said.

Egg production has also seen significant growth. Last year, Iran produced 1.34 million tons of eggs, exporting more than 150,000 tons to regional markets. This year, the target is 1.44 million tons, with exports continuing to support domestic market stability.

Faraji highlighted that Iran’s poultry sector is not only a national success story but also competitive on the global stage. “Our production units’ efficiency and productivity rival international standards,” he said, adding that collaboration between producers and authorities is helping to pave the way for sustainable, long-term expansion of poultry exports.
