Iran aims for major boost in fisheries exports

Tehran - Iran's Fisheries Organization has outlined a bold plan to significantly boost the country's seafood exports, aiming to reach a staggering $1 billion in exports by the conclusion of the Seventh Development Plan.
In a recent announcement, Hossein Hosseini, the head of the organization, revealed that Iran exported a substantial 210,000 tons of fishery products and aquatic animals last year, valued at $650 million. However, the government's ambitious target represents a substantial increase, signaling a commitment to expanding the country's presence in the global seafood market.
To achieve this goal, Iran has also set ambitious production targets, he added. “The country aims to produce 2.6 million tons of fishery products over the next decade, with an interim target of 1.8 million tons by the end of the current development plan.”
By expanding its fisheries sector and increasing exports, Iran hopes to bolster its economy and ensure food security. This major initiative underscores the country's determination to play a more prominent role in the international seafood trade.
