Iran agricultural export rises by over 35 percent in 9 months: Minister

Tehran – The value of Iran’s agricultural export has increased by over 35 percent during the first nine months of the current Iranian calendar year (March 21-December 20, 2024), as compared to the same period in the previous year, according to Agriculture Minister Gholamreza Nouri.

Speaking at the Supreme Council of Provinces, Nouri added that Iran aims to achieve self-sufficiency in rice, banana, and sugar production within the next four years.

He outlined specific targets, noting a four-year plan for rice self-sufficiency.

“Iran imports $700 million worth of bananas annually, a figure the minister pledged to eliminate through increased domestic production."

The minister also highlighted that imported sugar currently accounts for 30% of consumption, with plans to reach self-sufficiency in this area as well.
