Iran agri exports surge: Iraq, UAE, Russia major destinations

Iran's agricultural exports witnessed a significant leap of 22% in the previous Iranian calendar year (ended March 19, 2024), according to Meysam Jahedi, Director General of Foreign Trade Promotion at the Ministry of Agriculture.
Jahedi further elaborated that the weight of exported food and agricultural products also saw a substantial increase of 13.4%. This translates to a rise in exports from 7.765 million tons to 8.806 million tons during the year.
The report by IRNA also highlighted some of Iran's top exported agricultural products, including watermelons (776,000 tons), apples (755,000 tons), and tomatoes (473,000 tons).
"Iraq, the UAE, Russia, and Afghanistan were our major target markets for exports during this period," Jahedi remarked.
He emphasized that the Ministry of Agriculture prioritizes not only fulfilling domestic needs but also fostering export-oriented production as a key policy. This focus on exports aims to further strengthen Iran's agricultural sector and its contribution to the national economy.
