Iran, Uzbekistan sign MoU on overseas farming

Fars - Iran and Uzbekistan have signed a memorandum of understanding to boost cooperation in an overseas farming project covering 35,000 hectares of agricultural land in the Central Asian nation.

The Acting Head of the Fars Provincial Agriculture Organization, Ahad Bahjat Haghighi, announced the signing of the MoU between the governors of southern Fars Province and Surxondaryo Region in Uzbekistan.

“The agreement was concluded during a recent visit by the Fars governor and an accompanying economic delegation to Surxondaryo. The two sides reached an understanding to expand cooperation in cross-border agricultural production,” he said.

The official added, “Under the MoU, part of Surxondaryo’s farmland will be used for cultivating forage crops—particularly silage corn—to help meet the livestock feed requirements of Fars Province. The project aims to ease pressure on the province’s limited water resources while contributing to the sustainable enhancement of national food security.”

Haghighi further noted that the next phase will include plans to expand agricultural exports, as well as promote technological and scientific collaboration in the agricultural sector between Fars and Surxondaryo.
