Innovative use of agricultural residues revolutionizes livestock feed production
Karaj – The President of the Animal Science Research Institute of Iran announced a major step forward in the development and promotion of advanced technologies for producing Total Mixed Ration (TMR) feed.
The initiative, implemented in three forms - silage, compressed blocks, and pellets - aims to optimize the use of agricultural residues and alternative feed resources, a strategic priority amid the country’s limited forage supplies and challenging climatic conditions, the official said.
TMR feed is a modern feeding system in which all essential nutrients — including concentrates, forages, supplements, and water — are thoroughly mixed in a feed mixer to produce a uniform and balanced ration for livestock.
According to the institute’s president, TMR technology effectively addresses key challenges in the livestock sector by converting agricultural by-products into nutritionally balanced, compact, and ready-to-use feed. This innovation also supports scientific feeding practices across small and medium-sized livestock units, improving both efficiency and animal health.
He emphasized that the expansion of these technologies, rooted in the sustainable use of domestic resources, represents a significant step toward boosting productivity and cutting production costs in the livestock industry — a move that could reshape and stabilize this critical sector for years to come.
