Improved grafted Konar orchards lift output in Bushehr

Bushehr - Harvesting of Konar has begun across roughly 450 hectares of orchards in the southern Bushehr Province, with output forecast to exceed 2,500 tons this year, according to a provincial agriculture official.

Kobra Tavakkoli, Deputy for Plant Production Improvement at the Bushehr Agricultural Organization, said cultivation is dispersed but concentrated in Dashti, Dashtestan, and Jam counties.

Most orchards use grafted trees, and growers have adopted six improved varieties developed in the province, valued for their climate adaptability and higher yields.

Konar is a key horticultural crop in Bushehr’s warm areas, and the expansion of improved cultivars is boosting both productivity and fruit quality.

The Christ 's thorn plant grows in most regions in the South of Iran such as the provinces of Khuzestan, Bushehr, Fars, Kerman, Sistan, Hormozgan and Lorestan. It is a multipurpose tree and is known locally as the “Konar”. This very popular fruit is found in local markets and its area under cultivation is increasing.
