Tehran - The head of Iran's Veterinary Organization (IVO) has dismissed concerns over food security, announcing the country has sufficient red meat and chicken reserves even under potential wartime conditions.

 

"Poultry production operates on a 45-day planning cycle, with current supplies secured through chick placements made a month and a half ago," Alireza Rafieipoor told Radio Economy.

 

He attributed market stability to surplus domestic production and strategic stockpiling.

 

“Iran maintains excess poultry output visible in retail markets, while purchasing surplus for frozen reserves. Imports from Brazil and Turkey supplement these strategic stocks when needed.”

 

Following subsidy reforms, animal feed including corn and soybeans remains readily available at regulated prices. "Producers can secure inputs two months in advance through daily coordination with the Agriculture Ministry," he added.

 

“For red meat, domestic production covers 90-95% of demand, with surplus regions supplying high-consumption areas like Tehran. The remaining 5-10% is imported as fresh or frozen meat from Brazil, India, Pakistan, and Central Asian nations,” Rafieipoor said.
