Grounds broken for major vegetable oil production project

West Azarbaijan -  The groundbreaking ceremony for a project to construct a plant producing various types of crude vegetable oil was held in the village of Albalagh, Bukan County, with the participation of a number of provincial and local officials.

The project will be developed with an investment of 400 billion tomans on a 6,727-square-meter site and will have an annual production capacity of 3,000 tons of crude vegetable oil and 4,500 tons of oilseed meal.

It is expected to create 25 direct and 75 indirect employment opportunities.

The project’s key objectives include providing healthy, high-quality food, reducing reliance on imports and preventing foreign currency outflows, stimulating economic growth and regional development, and promoting a shift in cropping patterns toward low water-consuming crops.

The initiative is regarded as a significant step toward supporting oilseed cultivation in the Lake Urmia watershed, curbing the export of raw agricultural products, and strengthening food security.
