Fig harvest underway in Kermanshah Province

Kermanshah – The annual fig harvest has officially begun in Iran’s western Kermanshah Province, with an estimated 12,000 tons of figs expected to be harvested and supplied to the market this year, according the Director of Horticulture at the Kermanshah Agricultural Organization.

Rahman Feiz-Ghorbani said that the province has approximately 800 hectares of fig orchards, with the majority located in Dalahoo County and the Rijab district.

He added that fig orchards are also present in other parts of the province, including Sarpol-e Zahab and Gilan-e Gharb.

Highlighting the superior quality of figs produced in Rijab, Ghorbani noted that the Majifi variety is the region’s most prominent and is almost exclusively cultivated there. A portion of this premium-quality fig is exported to European countries, Central Asia, and the Persian Gulf region.

He also mentioned other locally grown fig varieties, including Sham, Bavam Ali, Zardaleh, Siyavaleh, Malek Mohammadi, and Kouhi.
