Shiraz – The head of the Agricultural Organization of Fars province has announced that the southern province, home to more than 10,000 horses and dedicated to preserving and propagating the native Dareshuri breed, has cemented its status as Iran's undisputed leader in horse breeding.

 

Ahad Bahjat Haghighi said that Fars currently hosts valuable breeds including Arabian, Kurdish, and Dareshuri.

 

“Among these, the native Dareshuri breed—whose largest population is found in Fars, has transformed the province into the national center for its breeding and genetic origin.”

 

Emphasizing the need to standardize the industry, the official announced the implementation of a nationwide microchipping program across the province.

 

Haghighi explained that the program, carried out in collaboration with the country's Animal Science Research Institute and the National Breeding Center, aims to issue identity documents for horses, enhance genetic quality, prevent potential fraud, and enable closer monitoring of the breeding process. According to him, the initiative is progressing favorably.

 

Highlighting the scientific approach of the Agricultural Organization to further develop the industry, he added that alongside regulatory infrastructure, extensive training programs have been designed for beneficiaries across the province's counties.

 

The Dareshuri is an Iranian breed of riding horse of oriental type. It is native to Fars province in southern Iran and is associated with the Qashqai people of that area, particularly with the Dareshuri tribe for which it is named. It may also be known as the Shirazi after the city of Shiraz, the provincial capital.
