Rome – The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) will host the Global Conference on Smart Farming: Leveraging Data and Technology for Sustainable Agrifood Systems from July 1–3, 2026, bringing together policymakers, researchers, farmers, development partners, civil society organizations, and private-sector representatives from around the world.

The three-day conference will showcase practical innovations and emerging technologies aimed at improving agricultural productivity, resource efficiency, and sustainability. Discussions will focus on scaling up smart farming systems, advancing digital skills, and promoting entrepreneurship among youth and women.

According to FAO, participants will explore how data analytics, artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), precision agriculture tools, and other digital technologies can support better farm management, optimize the use of water and agricultural inputs, and strengthen climate resilience and food security.

The conference will also identify policy, investment, and partnership priorities needed to expand access to smart farming solutions, particularly for smallholder and family farmers.

FAO considers smart farming an essential response to growing challenges facing agriculture, including climate change, soil and water degradation, rising production costs, and labor constraints. The organization stresses that technological innovation must be inclusive, locally adapted, and farmer-centered.

The event will be streamed live via FAO Webcast TV at:
