East Azerbaijan Province emerges as Iran’s beekeeping powerhouse
East Azarbaijan - East Azarbaijan Province, in the northwest of Iran, has become a national hub in beekeeping, boasting the largest number of apiaries in the country and ranking second in overall honey production, according to the head of the provincial Agricultural Organization.
Shahram Shafiei announced that honey output in the province is projected to reach 18,000 tons this year, representing a 10% increase over last year.
“Production of royal jelly has also surged by 35%, with Maragheh, Sarab, and Varzeqan identified as the top honey-producing hubs in the region.”
In addition to its production strength, East Azerbaijan holds the top national ranking in honey packaging and processing, cementing its status as Iran’s premier center for apiculture.
According to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, Iran ranks 3rd in the world in terms of honey production.
