East Azarbaijan ranks second in Iran for fresh garlic production
Azarbaijan - East Azarbaijan Province has secured the second place nationwide in fresh garlic production and third in dried garlic, according to the head of the Provincial Agricultural Organization.
Speaking at the province’s Garlic Festival, Shahram Shafiei, described the event as a platform to promote collaboration, share expertise, and strengthen the garlic brand, adding that Teymurlu has emerged as the country’s leading center for garlic cultivation and trade.
He announced plans to establish a Garlic Industrial Park aimed at expanding processing capacity and value-added production, noting that obstacles to its construction will be removed by next week.
Currently, 10 industrial and 15 traditional processing units are operating across the province. Once the new park is established, these facilities will be integrated and modernized, enhancing productivity and market competitiveness.
Designed for expansion up to 100 hectares, the project is expected to generate sustainable employment, increase efficiency, and further solidify East Azerbaijan’s role as a national leader in garlic production and agribusiness innovation.
